Steve Barnes, Birchden Farm on "The Adventures of an Asparagus Grower"
Steve started by growing asparagus, strawberries and raspberries for the supermarkets, but found that the real demand was for freshly cut asparagus available for local sales so increased the asparagus area to around 30 acres and started selling direct at roadside stalls, farmers markets as well as at our seasonal farm shop and to the local wholesale trade.
